What is supported accommodation?
Supported accommodation is a home where you have your own room and your own space, with staff on hand to help you learn to live independently. It sits between living in care and having a tenancy of your own.
You may also hear it called semi-independent living or 16 plus accommodation. At Serenity, it means you start your journey with as much or as little support as you need, and we gradually step back as your confidence grows.
Good to know: Supported accommodation is not a children's home and does not provide personal or nursing care. It is about support, guidance and building independence.
Who our accommodation is for
We support young people aged 16 to 25 who are leaving residential or foster care and are ready to take their next step towards adult life.
Ages 16 and 17
Looked after young people and care leavers moving on from a residential or foster placement. Support is arranged with the young person's social worker and reviewed through their care plan.
Ages 18 to 25
Care leavers continuing to build their independence, working with their Personal Adviser towards education, work and a home of their own.
Every referral is assessed individually. We will always be honest with you if we feel another service would meet a young person's needs better.
A room that is yours
Every young person has their own furnished room. It is your private space, and staff will always ask before coming in, unless there is an emergency or a safety concern.
- Bed and fresh bedding
- Wardrobe and drawers
- Bedside table
- Your own fridge
- TV with internet access
- Shared kitchen and lounge
Someone is always here
There are day staff and waking night staff every day, so there is always someone available when you need them.

How a placement is arranged
We keep the process clear and simple for professionals, and we involve the young person at every step.
- 1
Placement enquiry
A professional sends a short, non identifying enquiry online or calls our team.
- 2
Initial conversation
We call back to talk through the young person's needs and our availability.
- 3
Secure referral
If it looks like a good fit, we arrange a secure way to share the referral and supporting information.
- 4
Assessment and matching
We assess suitability and how the young person will get on with the people already living in the home.
- 5
Moving in
We agree a move in date and plan the first day, so the young person knows what to expect.
