Support that helps you grow
Every young person at Serenity has a key worker, a personal support plan and help with the everyday skills that make independent life possible.
- Your key worker
- Your plan
- Your pace
Our approach
We believe you have the right to live as independently as possible, with guidance to make positive choices and equal opportunities as you move towards adult life. Your support is built around your goals, and you are involved in every plan made about you.
Person centred
Support is shaped around who you are, what you need and what you want to achieve.
Goal led
Together we set short and long term goals and celebrate every step forward.
At your pace
You can begin with as much or as little support as you need, and grow from there.
We are not a clinical or therapeutic service. If you need health or mental health care, we help you register with and access the right local services.
Moving in and settling
Moving somewhere new can feel like a lot. You do not need to remember everything on day one.
- 1
On the day
A member of staff welcomes you, shows you around, gives you your keys and safety information and helps you settle your belongings into your room.
- 2
First week
Get to know your housemates and staff, learn the house rules and arrange important appointments such as your GP, dentist and optician.
- 3
After 48 hours
We meet to check how you are settling in and begin agreeing your independence goals together.
- 4
First month
You work with your support worker on your support plan, attend regular meetings and take part in activities and workshops.
Life skills and independence
We help you build the practical skills you will use every day, by doing them together until you feel confident doing them alone.
- Healthy meals and cooking on a budget
- Grocery shopping and planning meals
- Laundry and caring for your clothes
- Keeping your room and shared spaces clean and safe
- Hygiene and self care routines
- Using kitchen appliances safely
Money and budgeting
Managing money is one of the biggest steps towards independence. We help you understand it, one step at a time.
Understand your money
Learn about your income and spending and make a budget that works for you.
Pay your bills
Get confident paying bills on time and keeping track of what you owe.
Start saving
Shop affordably and find small ways to put money aside for the future.
In your first few weeks we can help you set up a bank account, update your address and apply for your National Insurance number if you do not have one yet.
Education, training and work
Whether you want to study, train or start working, we help you find the right opportunity and build the confidence to take your next step.
- 1
Explore your options
Talk through your interests and find courses, training or jobs that suit you.
- 2
Get ready
Support with applications, CVs, routines and getting to appointments on time.
- 3
Keep going
Your key worker checks in on your progress and helps you stay on track.
If you are not currently in education, employment or training, we will support and advise you on how to get started.
Wellbeing and relationships
Feeling settled, connected and well matters just as much as practical skills.
Someone to talk to
Our team is here to listen. It is okay to ask for help if you feel overwhelmed or anxious.
Healthy routines
Enough sleep, a balanced diet and simple ways to relax, such as breathing exercises.
People who matter
We support you to stay in touch with trusted friends, family and other important adults where appropriate.
Hobbies and community
Finding activities you enjoy can reduce stress, build confidence and help you meet new people.
We help you access local counselling and health services when you need them. We do not provide clinical treatment or therapy ourselves.
Preparing to move on
Everything we do is about helping you get ready for the next chapter of your life.
